Residents have worked to preserve the desert character of the northern part of Scottsdale Road for more than three decades. In September 2000 Scottsdale voters passed a $27 million bond for improvements to the length of Scottsdale Road including the Scottsdale Road Scenic Corridor (Desert Foothills Scenic Drive). This pamphlet identifies enhancements that Friends believes should be given priority. These recommendations present a cumulative vision for a unique roadside. The expeditious implementation of these recommendations is our last chance to preserve our area’s heritage and natural beauty. We have already delayed too long! These improvements need a larger investment and require the use of funds from Scottsdale’s Scenic Corridor bond or capital improvement budget.
These enhancements can be implemented without the use of bond funds.
Paint and camouflage utility boxes, poles and railings Install rustic traffic signs to differentiate roadway and better blend with character and natural landscape Increased support of efforts to re-vegetate areas where roadside plants have been lost
