Dear Al,

The purpose of this letter is to request the City of Scottsdale to use the same color paint for all traffic poles, mast arms and related items along the Desert Foothills Scenic Drive. At our May 6th meeting, the Executive Committee of Friends of the Scenic Drive, Inc. voted unanimously that the brown/green color now used on the signals at Terravita Way be adopted for the entire Drive. We prefer it because it is in good taste, blends into the desert environment and provides consistency for the entire Drive.

The Desert Foothills Scenic Drive begins just north of the power lines which cross Scottsdale Road south of Jomax and ends at Carefree Highway. When the Drive was established in 1963 these were the boundaries that were used and they are reflected in documents that date to that period. There has been some discussion of extending the Drive southward to Pinnacle Peak Road and perhaps even further. The Executive Committee of Friends of the Scenic Drive discussed this possibly and felt (unanimously) that all sign posting and use of distinctive colors should be restricted to the historic boundaries of the Drive.

We appreciate your interest in the Desert Foothills Scenic Drive. If we can be of assistance in any way, please do not hesitate to call me.

Sincerely,

Les Conklin
Friends of the Scenic Drive, Inc.
