April 8, 2001 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Volunteers Clear Scenic Drive of LitterSCOTTSDALE, Ariz. - Noticed the difference? Two visitors from Wisconsin did, and took the time to stop and thank volunteers for their work. On Saturday, April 7th from 8 – 10 a.m., Friends’ volunteers picked up all the litter along both sides of the road for the entire 6 mile length of the Scenic Drive (Scottsdale Road from Happy Valley Road to Carefree Highway), plus portions of Pinnacle Peak and Dynamite Roads. Representatives of Arizona Clean & Beautiful joined volunteers in the effort. Volunteers reported at the Scenic Drive monument sign on the east side of Scottsdale Road just south of Jomax, or at the Drive Entry sign on the west side of Scottsdale Road just south of Carefree Highway at the Terravita Marketplace. Volunteers were assigned a cleanup area and given a safety vest, pickup stick and plastic trash bags. Veterans wore gloves and long pants. Rawhide and Friends of the Scenic Drive provided free coffee, donuts and water at both sign-in locations. Friends invite residents to participate in its regularly scheduled cleanup efforts. Friends of the Scenic Drive is dedicated to the restoration and enhancement of the Desert Foothills Scenic Drive. To volunteer email: friends@scenicdrive.org. |
