Scottsdale Seeks Volunteers for Seventh Annual Citywide Litter Cleanup

Grab a trash bag and get moving at this year’s "Treasures ‘N Trash 2002 for Scottsdale’s seventh annual city-wide litter clean-up! Gather your friends and family to join the Scottsdale Pride Committee, a City of Scottsdale citizen volunteer committee and National Keep America Beautiful affiliate on Saturday, Oct. 26th from 8:00 a.m. to noon at the following locations:

Indian School Park (northeast corner of Indian School and Hayden Roads)

Scottsdale Bible Church (southeast corner of Shea and Miller)

AJ’s Fine Foods (southeast corner of Pima and Pinnacle Peak Roads)

This annual event commemorates National Make A Difference Day, which celebrates volunteerism, and historically gathers more than 500 volunteers, beautifying over 100 miles of public roadways. To date, this event has cleared over 24 tons of litter.

As part of the clean-up effort volunteers, ages 12 and up, will be provided with t-shirts, safety vests, water, snacks and clean-up bags. Clean-up supplies can be picked up on Oct. 26 starting at 8 a.m. in the parking lots at the locations mentioned above.

In keeping with the "Treasures ‘N Trash" theme, volunteer incentives will be provided in the form of golden-colored rocks hidden under select pieces of trash found on the sides of major Scottsdale Roads. Volunteers finding the golden rocks may redeem them for one of many prizes donated by local businesses including theater tickets, gift certificates, and more!

The "Treasures ‘N Trash" clean-up event will primarily focus on major roadways and scenic corridors throughout Scottsdale, from McKellips Road north to the City boundaries (approximately 50 linear miles).

"Treasures ‘N Trash" participants are asked to contact Joanie Mead, Scottsdale Pride Committee Staff Liaison, at (480) 312-2543 to register. All volunteers must sign a release form and be at least twelve years of age to participate.
