Roadside Plant Exhibits

Northbound Plant Sites Southbound Plant Sites Plant Parent Program

On each side of Scottsdale Road various species of trees and plants have been identified by small wooden signs similar to those used by the people of Cave Creek when they created the drive in 1963. More than twenty species of plants are exhibited on each side of the road (List of Exhibits). Friends of the Scenic Drive began restoring the drive in 1995 according to the original plan. Plants were selected with the assistance of the Desert Botanical Garden. For more information on the Ironwood, Jojoba and other types of exhibited plants visit the Plant Guide.

Plant Parent Program

You can support the Scenic Drive by participating in our Plant Parent Program. The program enables contributors to adopt an available Scenic Drive plant exhibit from the lists below. [Read More] Platinum Plant Parents can adopt any available plant by indicating the appropriate "Exhibit Number" on the enrollment form. Gold Plant Parents adopt a plant exhibit that is selected by Friends of the Scenic Drive and assigned to them. Plants exhibits that are available for adoption have "Available" as their Adoption Status. When you adopt a plant the 2003-2004 adoption begins immediately and ends on September 30, 2004.

Note. The exhibits require continuous maintenance and some exhibits are being worked on. These exhibits are still available for adoption. These exhibits are marked (NW = Need Work: S = Signs, P = Post, R= Rocks). All current work will be completed by May 30, 2003.
