We hope you had a great time on Saturday, June 2nd at MacDonald’s Ranch. If you were not
there, make a note to yourself to attend Cookout VII. Here are highlights
and pictures:
- Excellent turnout.
More than 400 tickets were sold. Picture to the right shows volunteers relaxing
after closing time.
- Best merchant support ever
. We had more donations from
the business
community than ever before. To see who donated review our list of 2001 Friends
of the Scenic Drive [Read More]. The picture to the
left shows three happy guests.
- Pleasant weather.
It cooled down quickly making for a very comfortable
evening under the desert stars.
- Great food and entertainment
. Once again, everyone seemed to agree
that the Outback Steakhouse meal was terrific and Geoff Conklin's music was a perfect fit for this relaxing night in the desert.
The picture to the right shows Marty after running the drinks concession for
the 6th consecutive year.
- Exhibits a hit
. Once again, everyone seemed to enjoy the exhibits,
especially the rehabilitated birds and animals. And, this year we welcomed
Arizona State Parks as an exhibitor. We've also named exhibitors as 2001
Friends of the Scenic Drive [Read More].
-
Raffles were popular . This year the raffles drew more attention than
ever, probably because we had the highest quality donations ever. Desert Aura
Cactus Nursery donated a saguaro, which brought in more than $500 in raffle
ticket sales. Picture at left shows another six year veteran.
- Silent Auction saw action
. Again, we had terrific items to auction
off. Topping the list was a two night stay at Four Seasons Resort at Troon
North and a foursome of Golf at the Boulders Resort. To right: guest is served
by 18 years of experience.
- Deserving people were recognized
. An emotional point for many was the
donation of a saguaro in the memory of Don Schoenau to the Scenic Drive by the
Greater Pinnacle Peak
Association. The saguaro and a plaque recognizing Don’s
work will be planted at the Scenic Drive monument sign. Mayor Manross also
recognized those individuals who played a role in obtaining and planting
$25,000 in desert plants from the Target development project. The trees and
plants were planted along the Scenic Drive.
- Best volunteer support ever!
Just as the event has repeat customers,
it has repeat volunteers, and they are getting very good at doing
Cookout at the Ranch!
- Best community support every! More than 60 organizations and
businesses contributed to the success of the event by exhibiting or donating
- a record!
THANK YOU.
