• The Boulders. A world-renowned resort that is widely respected for its preservation of the desert environment.

• Heard Museum North - An extension of the world-famous Phoenix museum. Exhibits of Native American artifacts. Gift store.

• MacDonald's Ranch - Horseback riding amidst towering saguaros. Set in 1300 acres of lush Sonoran desert. MacDonald's also provides cookouts for groups. To learn about the history of MacDonald's Ranch visit MacDonald's Farm by Don Schoenau.

• Pinnacle Peak - Just a few miles from the Scenic Drive. It's known for its older, western-oriented restaurants: Pinnacle Peak Patio, Reata Pass Steakhouse and Greasewood Flat.

• Greasewood Flat - If you enjoy sitting under the trees at wooden picnic tables on a hot day sipping a cold one, then Greasewood Flat is for you.  No sun at night, just country and Buffet tunes to warm the crowd. • Pinnacle Peak Patio - See the world's largest Western steakhouse and necktie collection - more than one million ties hang from the rafters.  If you go, be sure to wear a tie - a very old tie!

• Reata Pass Steakhouse - Rustic cowboy steakhouse that is popular with the many locals.  Pinnacle Peak area.   Originally this place was a stagecoach stop, visit An Afternoon with Doc Cavalliere by Don Schoenau.

• Communities of Cave Creek and Carefree - Set at the foot of the Tonto National Forest. This area was under control of the Apaches until the 1870s.

• el Pedregal - Galleries, shops and restaurants within a unique "festival marketplace".
• The Pinnacle of Scottsdale - Boutiques, shops, friendly cafes and a large, grocery store set in a Spanish Renaissance style center.
• The Summit of Scottsdale - The newest shopping center in the area complete with a major retailer, large grocery store, coffee shop, jewelry store and other shops.
• Terravita Marketplace - Shops, restaurants, a drug store and grocery store at the intersection of Scottsdale Road and Carefree Highway.
